片語 pop the question 是向對方「求婚」的意思。動詞 pop /pɑp/ 形容事物像爆米花爆開一樣「碰」地突然出現，給人驚訝或措手不及的感覺；而後面的 question 當然是指 Will you marry me? 囉。這個片語最初的意思是問他人重要的問題，到 19 世紀時就變成了求婚的代名詞，是個非正式但極為實用的說法。
