片語 give birth 就是「生產、生孩子」，後面如果要連接受詞，則必須加上介系詞 to，也就是不及物的概念。由於 give birth 在邏輯上是「母產子」，所以只有主動型，沒有被動型，這與大家熟悉的 be born /bɔrn/「子被母生」是完全相反的，需格外留意。
